Charleston Habitat for Humanity is saddened to learn of the passing of David Barnard, former Executive Director of East Cooper Habitat for Humanity. In 2025, East Cooper Habitat and Charleston Habitat merged to strengthen Habitat’s impact and better serve families across the Charleston region.

During his years of leadership, David helped advance Habitat’s mission of bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope. He believed deeply in the power of community partnerships and in creating opportunities for local families to achieve safe, affordable homeownership. His leadership helped lay a foundation for the work that continues across the Charleston area today.

We are grateful for David’s years of service to Habitat and for the lasting impact he made on the families and community we serve. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and worked alongside him.

In lieu of flowers, David’s family has graciously asked that memorial gifts be made to Charleston Habitat for Humanity in his honor, continuing his legacy of helping local families build a place to call home.
